Fundação Alfredo de Sousa is a private foundation established to receive donations, build the campus, and to govern the school.
Alfredo de Sousa was the founder of Faculdade de Economia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and an influential economist.
Born in 1931, Alfredo de Sousa graduated from ‘Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Financeiras’ being recognized as the best student of his year. He undertook his PhD in the University of Paris and joint the university as an associate professor, publishing 15 articles and 14 reviews during that period.
From 1972 to 1994 he lectured at the most notable institutions of Economics and Management in Lisbon. Alfredo de Sousa is referred as a unique personality by his peers, he was also actively engaged in politics and consultant projects.
In 1977 he founded Faculdade de Economia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and was Dean and Professor. In 1980 he launched the first PhD in Economics in this institution and the leading MBA program in Portugal.
His critical and innovative approach to education shaped the Nova School of Business and Economics beliefs. His vision unquestionably changed the course of Economics and Management education in Portugal.
We, the undersigned, bear witness to the laying of the foundation stone of the new campus of NOVA School of Business & Economics. It is a milestone in the development of one of the leading schools in Europe, forged on academic strength, strong partnerships and an engagement with the world.
We support this endeavour in the belief and hope that this institution and the people who pass through it will serve their communities and advance knowledge. That they all will work to create a positive environment for education and research, balancing rigour and discipline with creativity and innovation.
